I am writing this article to provide you with my review on the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card. I will give you my overview of the GPU itself and a list of games with respective performance expectations you should have.

The AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT is a good low-end budget graphics card. It’s going to allow you to meet or exceed the system requirements of most modern AAA game titles, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Elden Ring. You can see the GPU Engine Specs below and then compare it to some of the most popular games.
GPU Engine Specs | |
Game Frequency (MHz) | 2650 |
Compute Units | 16 |
Ray Accelerators | 16 |
Memory Type | GDDR6 |
VRAM | 8GB |
As you can see from the list of games below, most require only 8GB of VRAM at the highest. Once you get to Ultra 4K and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 / Warzone 2 will you see a requirement for 10GB of VRAM. You should be looking at a completely different graphics card though if you plan on doing any 4K gaming.

Performance Review – AMD Radeon 6500 XT
The AMD Radeon 6500 XT will deliver much better than the performance of the AMD Radeon 6400, which is one step down. In fact, it has double the VRAM. A true comparable graphics card would be NVIDIA’s RTX 3050 graphics card. However, you will be paying more for an NVIDIA card over an AMD card.
You should expect to be able to play modern AAA games at high performance on 1080P resolution. You should also be able to play modern AAA games at 1440P resolution, however don’t expect to get much more than 60-80 FPS. You will need to temper your graphics quality settings a little to gain more performance impacts. You could probably play some games on 4K resolution, but this is not a GPU that plays 4K well. For that you should be looking at a higher level AMD card, such as the 6750 XT or 6800 XT.
Games like Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, Far Cry 6, and other graphics-intensive games will have a harder time reaching 60 FPS using high graphics settings on 1080P resolution. The AMD Radeon 6500 XT would struggle on 1440P with these games.
