The purpose of this article is to discuss how to address the Dell Alienware M15 R4 bulging issue and how to replace the battery. You get home from work planning on playing your favorite new video game and you notice your Dell Alienware M15 R4 bulging from the track pad.

The reason for this is due to the fact that the battery itself is bulging or expanding and now it’s time to replace it. Lithium-ion batteries expand when a disruption in the chemical reaction inside the battery occurs. This disruption creates gas, which expands the casing causing the laptop itself to look like it’s bulging.

Dell Alienware M15 R4 Bulging – What To Do
In order to resolve the bulging issue with your Alienware laptop, you need to take apart the laptop and replace the battery. This is a pretty simple process. Before proceeding though, you should read Dell.com’s precautionary note about Lithium-ion batteries (they are dangerous so be careful).
Required Tools:
- Small Phillips screwdriver
- Flat head screwdriver or small putty knife
Step 1: The first thing you need to do is remove the base cover on the bottom of the laptop. Unscrew all the screws from the bottom of the laptop. You may need a flat head screwdriver or small putty knife to help you open the cover.
Step 2: Remove the screws surrounding the laptop battery itself. Those screws are circled in the image below.

Step 3: Disconnect the battery cable from the battery to the laptop. It may be tough, so just use some gentle force to press the connections apart. You should press at the base of the cable, not pull at the cable itself as that may damage and pull apart internal wiring.
Step 4: Remove the battery and replace it with a new battery.
Step 5: Replace all the screws, connect the new battery and put the base cover back on. Power up your laptop and you’re done.
