Is HP Envy X360 Good for Gaming?
HP Envy X360 Overview
I would recommend an HP Envy X360 laptop for gaming but only for those who have specific needs for mobility, price, and performance. You could easily go out and buy a desktop PC for the same kind of money and get a lot better performance. You could also spend a lot less on a laptop if you did not use it for gaming. But there are always those who need to have both mobility and performance for PC gaming.
The HP Envy X360 laptop line has a lot of options and you need to know which ones to look at for when it comes to PC gaming. One downside to the HP Envy X360 is that you do not have the option for a mobile graphics card. Not even when customizing the laptop through HP’s website. You only have the integrated graphics embedded in the processor. For AMD Processors, that is AMD Radeon. For Intel, it is Intel Xe embedded graphics.
PC Specs for HP Envy X360
In this section, I will only talk about the details as it relates to gaming. I won’t get into battery life, webcam, recharge time or other specs. Just the main components.
Display (Screen Size)
The display size you can choose from is either 13.3″ or 15.6″. Neither of which is all that great for gaming. The one good thing is that these do give you a 1920 x 1080p resolution, which is a very common used resolution for today’s modern gamer. We are seeing higher resolutions on the desktop PC side, such as 1440P and 4K. The fact is, the graphics GPU in a lot of laptops won’t meet the performance demands of these resolutions.
Processor
There are multiple processors to choose from within the HP Envy X360 line. They include:
You should choose either the i7 or the Ryzen 7 for your HP Envy X360. This is because they are paired with the higher amount of RAM (16GB). Ryzen is going to be an all around good performer and so is Intel. You will pay a little more with Intel, but you also tend to get a little more as well.
RAM (Memory)
RAM sizes come in the options of 8GB and 16GB at DDR4-3200MHz. This is a pretty common configuration even among desktop PCs, although I would not recommend 8GB of RAM. 8GB is not enough for gaming and running other applications in the background.
SSD NVMe Drive
The HP Envy X360 will come with various capacity sizes, including the 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD and the 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD. The only real choice here is how much capacity you want as there won’t be much of a difference in speed between the capacity sizes.
Graphics
Again, with the HP Envy X360 you do not have the option for a discrete (dedicated) graphics card. You rely entirely on the embedded graphics that comes with the processor. In this case it is either the Intel Xe or AMD Radeon embedded graphics coprocessor.
Is the HP Envy X360 Good for Gaming?
The fact of the matter is this. You need to look at the system requirements for a game you are looking to play. If they call out a dedicated (discrete) graphics card, then the HP Envy X360 is likely not going to perform well for that game. That definitely includes games like Elden Ring, Halo: Infinite, Far Cry 6, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022) and many other AAA games. Older games like StarCraft 2, Medal of Honor (2010), and Warhammer 40,000 will probably play decent on this laptop.
