NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER | Performance for COD MW2 (2022)
Review of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER graphics cards were released in February, 2019 which was around the same time as the 20 series graphics cards (e.g. GeForce RTX 2060). According to Steam’s Hardware Survey (Oct. 2022) The GTX 1660 SUPER graphics card currently ranks as number 10 in the most popular graphics cards being used on Steam. One of the big attractions for the GTX 1660 SUPER is that it has a lower MSRP value, which ultimately means lower street price. The MSRP on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER is $229. The graphics card industry has been plagued however by low inventory and high demand, making prices skyrocket well beyond MSRP value.
The GTX 1660 SUPER is based on the Turing architecture, like the RTX 20 series cards, which is an upgrade from the Pascal architecture you find on the 10 series cards like the GTX 1050 Ti. The Turing architecture is an important feature because NVIDIA claims that it can increase FPS performance by 30-50%. The Turing architecture also introduced ray tracing, which deals with how light is reflected and how it casts shadows. You can read more about the Turing architecture here.
System Requirements for COD MW2 2022 and Warzone 2
The low-end system requirements for COD MW2 and Warzeon 2.0 show a GTX 960. The recommended system requirements show a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card. The GTX 1660 SUPER is a generation ahead of the GTX 1060 graphics card and its specs are more advanced. The GTX 1060 graphics card was for the most part released in 2016.
It’s likely that the reason why Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 listed the GTX 1060 graphics card is due to the fact it is currently the most widely used graphics card on Steam today. And there are many other games out there who have graphics cards that lie in between the GTX 960 and GTX 1060 in terms of performance.

Performance: GTX 1660 SUPER for COD MW2 | Warzone 2
You will be able to play COD MW2 and Warzone 2.0 without a problem using the GTX 1660 SUPER. That being said, the GTX 1660 SUPER is not one of those fancy graphics cards that will be able to produce rich graphics at 1440P or 4K resolution. You should be looking at the RTX 3070 graphics card or higher if you want to play 1440P resolution at high graphic settings on COD MW2. That being said, the GTX 1660 SUPER will play flawlessly using 1080P resolution. You can even turn up the graphics settings to get more quality.
To see how much better the GTX 1660 SUPER is over the GTX, let’s compare their specs.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 | |
CUDA Cores | 1408 | 1280 |
Boost Clock | 1.785 | 1.708 |
VRAM Size | 6 GB | 6 GB |
Memory Interface | GDDR6 | GDDR5 |
While the gains of the GTX 1660 SUPER seem small compared to the GTX 1060, we need to remember that the GTX 1660 SUPER is based on the Turing architecture vs the Pascal architecture. There is also a big gain in VRAM throughput since we are moving from GDDR5 to GDDR6 memory. GDDR6 transfer speed is nearly double that of GDDR5. This translates to more frames per second or better performance while gaming. It also allows you to have better graphics quality, since you are going from roughly 8Gbps to 14-16Gbps.
According Geralt Benchmarks‘ Youtube video below, you can achieve anywhere from 60 FPS to upwards of almost 90 FPS using high graphics settings on 1080P resolution. In the video, it shows the player using 1440P resolution on lower graphics settings.
