Review of RTX 4070 Ti for Red Dead Redemption 2

Posted on March 10, 2024February 8, 2024 By Eriksson No Comments on Review of RTX 4070 Ti for Red Dead Redemption 2

I will provide my review of the RTX 4070 Ti for Red Dead Redemption 2 with FPS metrics on 1080P, 1440P and 4K resolution.

You can see from the graph above that the FPS for the RTX 4070 Ti for Red Dead Redemption 2 measures in at roughly 70 FPS on 4K resolution, 95 FPS at 1440P resolution, and 180 FPS at 1080P resolution. Note that 4K and 1440P resolutions had help from DLSS, while 1080P did not.

We measure in FPS because it tell us how much frames per second the graphic card can produce on different resolutions.

DLSS is a technology from NVIDIA that uses artificial intelligence to render graphics at faster rates. The image reduction quality is negligible but you do get more FPS, so it’s really a nice thing to have for games like Red Dead Redemption 2 that require a lot of horsepower to play well on maximum graphics settings. DLSS works well for Red Dead Redemption 2, according to multiple reports on Steam.

About the PC Build

It’s important to highlight the PC specs for this review. You need a well-balanced PC build for any modern AAA game like Red Dead Redemption 2. The Skytech Azure 2 provides just the right amount of horsepower to compliment the RTX 4070 Ti.

This PC comes with the Intel i5 13600K processor, which is able to be overclocked if needed, but not necessary for Red Dead Redemption 2. You also get 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and of course the RTX 4070 Ti. I really like Skytech gaming PCs because they come with a one year warranty and try as I might I can never build these for less than the price Skytech sells them for. I believe they have buying power with NVIDIA, Intel, and the other parts manufacturers to get these prices so low.

RTX 4070 Ti – Playing Other Games

The RTX 4070 Ti is able to provide similar performance to other modern AAA games. Red Dead Redemption 2 came out on December 5th, 2019. Since then, you have had games like COD MW3 and Elden Ring, who each have very unique and different game styles and requirements from gamers. The RTX 4070 Ti is able to handle both of those games and many others just fine.

I will say, however, that the RTX 4070 Ti is much more of a better performer on 1080P and 1440P. It’s a mid-range GPU and not necessarily meant for 4K gaming, although with the help of DLSS you can get there.

RTX 4070 Ti vs 3070 Ti for Read Dead Redemption 2

The main difference between the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti for Red Dead Redemption is pricing and 4K DLSS.

First, let’s talk performance. You can play Red Dead Redemption on 4K resolution with DLSS and have a smooth gaming experience. That’s not the case with the RTX 3070 Ti. You should expect some choppiness playing Red Dead Redemption 2 using the RTX 3070 Ti on 4K resolution.

Next, pricing. The RTX 4070 Ti does come with a price hike from the RTX 3070 Ti. That being said, going with the RTX 3070 Ti already puts you a couple years behind the curve. The RTX 4070 Ti will future proof your gaming experience for the next five years. The RTX 3070 Ti won’t become irrelevant, but it certainly won’t be playing new games five years from now on 1440P or 4K resolution.
