The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 is set to be one of the best-selling graphics cards in 2022. That does not come as too much of surprise. NVIDIA has been dominating the market share of GPUs and this year has blown away AMD Radeon graphics cards, according to techradar. NewEgg has also listed the card in their Top 10 best-selling graphics cards, coming in at number 8. Given the drop in prices continuing to trend downwards and its performance, it seems the RTX 3050 will continue to see high demand.
Elden Ring is also no stranger to success as it continues to climb as the best-selling game in 2022. It nearly surpassed the early success that CyberPunk 2077 had in its first three weeks. And unlike the early performance setbacks CyberPunk 2077 had, fans are still raving about Elden Ring. Elden Ring is one of the most graphics-intensive game in 2022. It is no surprise that many gamers are wondering if their graphics card will be able to handle Elden Ring. A lot of gamers are still running legacy graphics cards, like the 1050 Ti or GTX 970. Neither the 1050 Ti nor the GTX 970 will do well or meet the minimum system requirements of Elden Ring.
Elden Ring’s System Requirements
Elden Ring’s minimum system requirements for a graphics card show the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB or AMD RADEON RX 580 4 GB. The recommended system requirements for Elden Ring are the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB or AMD RADEON RX VEGA 56 8 GB. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 8GB is a few steps above the GeForce GTX 1070 8GB. Although they have the same amount of VRAM (8GB) the 3050 exceeds beyond the 1070 with its DLSS, Ray Tracing, and other technologies and updated drivers.
Benchmarks for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050
When benchmarking graphics cards, frames per second (FPS) is the measurement used. The higher the FPS number, the better the performance from the graphics card. FPS also correlates to the refresh rate of the monitors. Since most standard monitors refresh at 60 Hz, that is what you want to ensure a smooth gaming experience. Going much under 60 FPS is what causes stuttering or a choppy experience. This game is capped at 60 FPS by the developers. However, with a mod it can go past that which is why these benchmarks show above 60 FPS.
PC Specs for Benchmark
- AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 8GB
- RAM – 32GB DDR4 3200MHz
- 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD
GeForce RTX 3050 at 4K Resolution for Elden Ring
The RTX 3050 seems to be able to deliver an average of 30-35 FPS on maximum and medium graphics settings. 30-35 FPS does not make the game unplayable, but gamers should notice some choppiness and stuttering. However, playing Elden Ring might be worth it on 4K with maximum settings, even if there are some hiccups.
GeForce RTX 3050 at 1440P Resolution for Elden Ring
Elden Ring performs much better on 1440P resolution with the RTX 3050 on maximum and medium graphics settings. However, it still does not quite get up to 60 FPS. 60 FPS is a good goal to ensure a smooth gaming experience. Again, 1440P provides an immersive experience and Elden Ring players may not notice the sub-60 FPS hit.
GeForce RTX 3050 at 1080P Resolution for Elden Ring
1080P in terms of graphics settings and performance is the best resolution for the RTX 3050 with Elden Ring. That being said, 1080P is not as immersive of an experience as you might get with 1440P or 4K and it seems to only provide a slight increase in smooth gaming experience or higher FPS. If you are sensitive to lower FPS delivery, then 1080P is the right resolution for your Elden Ring gaming experience on the RTX 3050 graphics card. If you prefer having the better graphics and immersive experience, then bump up to 1440P or 4K with higher graphics settings.
Popularity of the GeForce RTX 3050
According to Steam’s May 2022 Hardware Survey, the RTX 3050 is in the upper 76th percentile of graphics cards being used to play games. It has currently 1.12% of gamers’ using it and rising by .03%, where the #1 spot is taken by the GTX GeForce GTX 1060 at 6.98%. The fastest-growing graphics cards is the GTX 3070, which is rising on the list by 0.2%.
