RTX 3070 and Elden Ring are on the rise
The purpose of this article will be to discuss the benchmarks of the RTX 3070 against Elden Ring. Many gamers are wondering if their graphics card will handle Elden Ring. That’s because there are so many graphics cards on the market it can be difficult to understand without heavy research. The market has approximately over 100 graphics cards today, according to Steam’s May 2022 Hardware Survey.
In fact, according to that same survey, only about half of the graphics cards on the market will meet minimum requirements for Elden Ring. Therefore, many gamers out there who want to play Elden Ring are likely to upgrade their PC. The RTX 3070 graphics card from NVIDIA is a good candidate. NVIDIA’s 2nd generation RTX technology, Ampere powers the RTX 3070. Compared to previous generations, such as the 2070 and 1070, the 3070 is a huge leap ahead, as illustrated below.

RTX 3070 and Ray Tracing for Elden Ring
Ray tracing is one of the major benefits of the new Ampere architecture and is considered the holy grail in graphics technology. This shows us how light would really reflect off of surfaces and is illustrated in the red box below.

The difference is clear. The slot machines reflected in the water on the right side of the screen, but only a blur on the left side. This will become important as mentioned by wccftech.com, because Elden Ring will support ray tracing in the future.
About Elden Ring
Elden Ring has been a smash hit at the box office and has sold over 13 million copies. It is FromSoftware’s best-selling game of all time. Celebrities like Elon Musk, WWE’s Randy Orton, Post Malone, and Mandalorian Star Ming-Na Wen are all playing Elden Ring. Elden Ring won 8 awards before it was even released and has been named as “Game of the Year” by WIRED magazine. The popularity of Elden Ring continues to spread and is forecasted to reach 20 million copies sold.
About NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3070 was launched on October 29th, 2020 with an MSRP value of $499. It is considered a high end graphics card, but not in the same league as the 3080 or 3090 series. The 3070 is in a separate league than the mid-range graphics cards which include the 3060, and 3060 Ti series.
PC Specs for Benchmark
- AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
- EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, 08G-P5-3767-KL
- RAM – 32GB DDR4 3200MHz
- 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD
Benchmark at 1080P
As you can see from the graph, the RTX 3070 will crush performance at 1080P resolution on maximum settings. 1080P is what most professional gamers set their resolution to along with most gamers, according to Steam’s Hardware Survey.
Benchmark at 1440P
Elden Ring will perform very well with the RTX 3070 from NVIDIA on 1440P resolution and with maximum settings. 1440P monitors have 78% more pixels than their 1080P counterparts which will provide for a more immersive gaming experience.
Benchmark at 4K
Where 1440P has about 4 million pixels, 4K resolution has about 8 million pixels. That means it can provide double the amount of an immersive gaming experience in terms of graphics. Visually seeing a 2X difference from 1440P to 4K is subjective to the audience. In this benchmark however, we can see that max settings at 1440P compared to max settings at 4K is a 37.5% delta. If you have a monitor that can display 4K it will definitely be worth playing at that resolution solely for the immersive experience and not to mention that the RTX 3070 will be able to handle it well at about 50 FPS.
