In this post, I will summarize my RTX 4070 Ti Benchmarks for Elden Ring on 1080P, 1440P and 4K resolutions on maximum graphics settings. The graph above shows a quick summary of the results measured in FPS (frames per second). The FPS performance measured for each resolution had graphics settings set to the maximum. You can see that Elden Ring will perform great with the RTX 4070 Ti on 1440P and 1080P resolutions, but not very well on 4K resolution.
For the rest of this article, I will provide an overview of the unique characteristics of Elden Ring that make performance for this game tough. In addition to that, I will share a prebuilt PC for these results and discuss how they perform against the recommended system requirements for Elden Ring. I will also discuss a little bit more about how the RTX 4070 Ti compares to its peers and other games like COD MW3, Apex Legends, and Badur’s Gate 3.
Elden Ring and Why Performance is ‘Poor’
Elden Ring was released in February of 2022. In its first release, there were tons of bugs and lots of complaints about performance. However, the storyline and gameplay were amazing, so it quickly became a best seller. FromSoftware, the game developer, to reduce bugs and increase performance capped the frame rate to 60 FPS. That’s why, unless it’s jailbroken, you won’t see results above 60 FPS on 1080P resolution. That being said, although both NVIDIA and Elden Ring have released tons of updates to support the game, it’s visuals are still intense for modern graphics cards. And that is why performance is hard to get.
Here are the system requirements for Elden Ring to compare the RTX 4070 Ti against it:
- OS: Windows 10/11
- Processor: INTEL CORE I7-8700K or AMD RYZEN 5 3600X
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1070 8 GB or AMD RADEON RX VEGA 56 8 GB
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 60 GB available space
Really, the GTX 1070 8GB graphics card is three generations behind the RTX 4070 Ti. The RTX 4070 Ti completely dominates the GTX 1070 in terms of performance.
Review of the Prebuilt PC Specs – Skytech Azure 2
The specific SKU used for this build is the Skytech Azure 2 (ST-NEBULA-0716-B-SK).
The Skytech Azure 2 is one of the best prebuilt PC’s on the market for its price to performance ratio. There is nothing in this PC that is not well-balanced. The NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti pairs very nicely with the Intel i5 13600K processor. You also have tons of RAM so you can stream, listen to music, and not have to close out other apps and documents to save space on RAM. If you need more performance from the processor for whatever reason, you do have the option to overclock (note the ‘K’ in the processor name).
1TB of NVME storage is enough to have a few games installed and some data storage. That being said, I would encourage anyone who is on their second or third build to have an external drive. Having an external drive will allow you to backup data and offload media from your PC as not to take up expensive fast-performing drive space. I recommend the Buffalo LinkStation because it provides 2TB of usable space and is built natively with drive mirroring (RAID 1) so if you lose a drive, your data is not lost forever. It’s a near-perfect backup system.
RTX 4070 Ti Measured Against Other GPUs and Games
The RTX 4070 Ti is an upgrade from the RTX 3070 Ti. Comparatively, you’re going to find the RTX 3070 Ti cheaper on the market, but not by a whole lot. The performance gains and the additional VRAM on the RTX 4070 Ti makes it a better purchase over the 3070 Ti. You can read my post that covers the RTX 3070 Ti benchmarks on Elden Ring here.
When you buy it with a prebuilt PC, you are leveraging their buying power and getting it for a better price. The RTX 4070 Ti is an upper mid-range graphics card that will future proof your gaming experience for the next 3-5 years. In 2024, I would not buy anything less than an RTX 4000 series graphics card and expect to play modern games five years from now. When buying gaming systems, you should always plan for the long term because these things are expensive.
When you compare the performance of the RTX 4070 Ti against other games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and COD MW3, the FPS increases dramatically from what you see with Elden Ring. For example, The RTX 4070 Ti produces roughly 150 FPS on 4K resolution, and over 200+ FPS on 1440P and 1080P resolutions. This demonstrates that the RTX 4070 Ti is a powerhouse of a graphics card.
