Posted on July 19, 2022October 17, 2022 By Eriksson No Comments on Will God of War Ragnarok Be Released on PC?

Gamers want to know, will God of War Ragnarok be released on PC? The short answer is no…at least not yet. God of War Ragnarok is the ninth installment of the God of War Series. It follows Kratos and his young son Atreus as they battle with the Norse gods. A first look and reveal trailer was released in September 2021 by Sony that discuss the game in more detail.

In order to answer the question if God of War Ragnarok will be released on PC, we have to remember that the series is published by Sony Entertainment. Sony has a conflict of interest in having it released on PC immediately following its release on the Playstation consoles. Sony, like other console manufacturers want to keep games they publish restricted to their consoles. This strategy ensures a captive market and has been the common practice since Atari.

God of War (2018) was first released on Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. After over three years, it was finally released to PC (January, 2022). Santa Monica Studio is the developer of the God of War Series. In partnership with Sony, they have announced that God of War Ragnarok will be released on November 9th, 2022. The platforms it will be released on are Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. But there is also a good reason for Sony and Santa Monica Studios to keep it on Sony Playstation. You can trust the gaming experience will be better.

Console vs PC (Windows)

There is good reason for PC gamers to switch to consoles for games like God of War Ragnarok. You can improve the performance and have less issues with games when they are published on console systems like Playstation. People who play PC games like Fortnite often complain about performance, stuttering, and patches crashing their gaming experience. Consoles like Playstation have built a lot of trust with their audience. Yes, problems do still happen. But they are less likely.

Consoles also have an advantage of not needing the Windows operating system. The Windows operating system can be a bottleneck to gaming performance. Consoles are optimized specifically for games. PC Gamer did a wonderful job explaining why Windows can “hobble gaming development”. For this reason alone, it is understandable why Sony won’t be initially releasing God of War Ragnarok on PC (Windows).

When Will God of War Ragnarok Be Released on PC?

There are no plans that have been announced which detail a PC port (version) of God of War Ragnarok. It will likely take some time for the game developers to port the game to PC. Santa Monica Studios will want to ensure a good gaming experience. Sony also wants to likely make sure that it has enough time to entice gamers to move to its console if they really want to play the game. PC Gamers who like action-adventure games based on mythology might want to try Elden Ring as long as they have a good graphics card. For everyone else, it may be time to buy a Playstation 5.
